Weekday mornings don’t usually start with your feet in the sand. We’re typically caught up in the mad morning rush to get ready for work, get the kids out the door, and be where we need to be on time.

But if you can swing it – even just once – start your morning on a beach gazing out at the calm waters of Pleasant Pond as Heidi Audet leads you in a yoga practice that will stretch and loosen your stiff muscles and joints…and create a little breathing space in your head.

Heidi, who co-owns Chill Yoga in Lewiston, leads class twice a week at The Great Outdoors in Turner – a sweet, easy-going spot on Pleasant Pond with cottages under shady trees that open up to a private beach. This place exudes calm. (Side note: you can hang out at this beach for $5 a day and lounge and swim to your heart’s content.)

Classes are 7-8 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday (June 18 to August 22, no class on July 4), and it’s a $12 drop-in. The one-hour class includes seated and standing poses, and plenty of modifications for all levels. Participants generally span generations and experience levels.

And given how toasty it’s been in Maine recently, no one will discourage you from taking a refreshing dip in Pleasant Pond after class. It’s an excellent way to start your day.
