It feels like you can ski into forever on the Narrow Gauge Pathway Trail in Carrabassett Valley.

The 6.6-mile trail was a welcome flat path after a morning across the street at the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center, where a friend and I spent the morning challenging ourselves on the hills. Our legs needed a breather.

We parked at the Campbell Field, which is about a mile in from the western end, and took the connector path to the pathway. From there it was flat and dead ahead the whole way. [Downloadable map here]

The trail follows the Carrabassett River, and it’s close enough in some stretches that you can stare at the river while you ski.

It’s also multi-use, and we saw fat bikers, skiers, and walkers enjoying the day.

Mellow skiing with river views.
