At Riverview Martial Arts in South Portland, you can do a whole lot of socially appropriate kicking and punching during a fitness kickboxing class. You'll also do pushups and ab work and squats and lunges, which means the sweat will be abundant and you're certain to be spent by the end of the 55-minute class.
It's true, these two disciplines don't seem altogether compatible at first glance. When I first heard that a kickboxing yoga class existed, I imagined leaning into warrior pose before letting a stream of punches fly into a heavy bag, or kicking at aforementioned bag while holding my hands at heart center.
I tried Strike Fit. And wow, there was sweating. There was panting. There was a sense of toughness that lingers days later (just like the soreness in my arms and quads).
